F.A.Q.

What does the Poker Helper do?

This is a powerful highly accurate simulation utility for Windows machines which generates statistics, win percentages, hand probabilities and useful tactical information for the game of Texas Hold'Em Poker and Omaha Hold'em poker. It was designed for use with online Poker sites, providing highly accurate statistics for beginners and dedicated players alike.

The Poker helper can calculate player statistics based on a variable number of opponents, and at differing game stages. It also contains advanced algorithms to simulate in great detail the behaviour of human players, either in an online poker site or a live Texas Hold'Em game. It can be used for limit or no-limit poker statistics. Unlike most other Poker Calculators, it uses a fully customisable model of opponent behaviour when evaluating the strength of your cards.

Where can I learn more about Texas Hold'Em Poker?

To learn all about the game of Texas Hold'em Poker, please check out this article on Wikipedia.

What are the minimum system requirements?

You just need a few Mb of RAM and a Windows operating system. The faster the CPU you have the better the code will run. The code takes a few moments to initialise as it precalculates some data. This will run quicker on faster machines. Everything else in the program auomatically adapts to the speed of your computer. If your machine is slow then the software compensates for this and adaptively alters the complexity of the simulations

Do you have any screen shots of the Poker Helper?

Here's a small picture of the Poker Helper in use. The program uses two windows; one for selecting the cards and a second for displaying the statistics and all the main control buttons. This screenshot is from the new v3.0 of Col's Poker Helper.

Does this software come with any warranty?

No - it's just a free bit of code that I'm distributing to anyone who is interested! If you want to support this project then please offer a donation. My code has been tested on Windows 2000/XP/NT without any problems so you should be absolutely fine and I don't expect any possible conflicts - it doesn't alter any of your system settings, your registry or core windows folders. I don't accept any responsibility whatsoever for the accuracy of the predictions. If you lose your life's savings then it's not my fault! But if you earn a lot of money and want to donate some, please remember me (see below)!

How does the code work?

It runs Monte-Carlo simulations for randomly selected cards in each game. The details are slightly more complicated, especially using an opponent modelling algorithm, which improves the accuracy of the statistics by generating accurate models of opponent behaviour based on two parameters of aggression and bluffing frequency.

What does it cost?

It's free to download from this page. The .zip file is just under 60k in total and consists of one single executable file, pokerapp.exe. If you want to make a donation, then please do so through PayPal. Share some of the mountains of cash you've earned online thanks to my code! Holdem Poker can be a very lucrative hobby.

Is the source code available?

I'm afraid that the source code for the Poker Helper is now closed.

Can I help in updating the Poker Helper?

Sure, if you particularly want to! I'm not working on it as much as I would like to, though I have some exciting ideas for future developments. If you want to continue the project then feel free to send me an email. I don't mind what you do with the code so long as I'm fully credited in any public versions that you release. As I said above, if you start earning money from my code then we'll need to talk!
